ABOUT SURFY BIRDY
Floridian artist Rachel, b/k/a Surfy Birdy describes herself as a "flower child born in the wrong era" and her drawings certainly tell that tale. Taking up surfing in her late teens, it wasn't long before she was travelling to find waves. The imagery she draws on comes from those travels; tropical plantlife, perfect peeling waves and all iterations of the surf mobile. What really sets Surfy Birdy's work apart is the distinctly 70s colour pallete, the choice hues of green, yellow and pastel pink are a retina time machine back to the heyday of Gerry Lopez and Rabbit Bartholomew.
Originally a live-painting fixture at music festivals, you can now find Surfy Birdy driving round in her van selling paintings by the roadside.
